Wakeboard- Weltmeister Tom Fooshee und BMX-Gastgeber Sergej Geier gehen zwar in unterschiedlichen Disziplinen an den Start, sind aber beide in diesem Sommer bereits zum dritten Mal bei den T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds mit von der Partie. Neben ihrer Begeisterung für Extremsport verbindet die beiden 24-jährigen Rider vor Allem ihre erfolgreiche T-Mobile Playgrounds Vergangenheit. Sergej Geier konnte im vergangenen Jahr BMX-Bronze einfahren und Super-Star Tom Fooshee hängt sich 2009 sogar als 2-maliger Titelverteidiger ans Kabel. Ob die beiden Jungs auch Qualitäten als Wahrsager mitbringen, und wie sie sich auf Wettkämpfe wie die Summer Session vorbereiten, verrieten sie schon mal vorab im Interview.

How long have you been wakeboarding/ BMXing for? How come you picked up this particular sport?
Fooshee: I have been wakeboarding for over 8 years now. I choose wakeboarding for two reasons: not only riding is a ton of fun but also the environment wakeboarding creates is amazing! I mean how awesome is it to be on the boat or at the cable park with a ton of beautiful ladies in bikinis? Wakeboarding is just genius!
Geier: Ich fahre jetzt seit zehn Jahren. Damals hab ich BMX mal im Fernsehen gesehen und wollte es unbedingt auch ausprobieren.

Rituals: How do you prepare for a competition? Do you bring a lucky charm? What are your sources of inspiration or support?
Fooshee: My sources of inspiration are my friends that travel with me. That helps to have a good time and I also have someone to talk my run over with. My good luck charms seem to be Donald S. and Earl Ball, great guys that really help me out and keep my head on top of my shoulders.
Geier: Eine spezielle Vorbereitung im Sinne von Training habe ich nicht. Meine Rituale kurz vor dem Run kennen nur meine Freunde. Das soll auch so bleiben, sorry. Und Glücksbringer habe ich eigentlich auch keine. Die Unterstützung, die ich brauche, bekomme ich von meiner Familie und meinen Freunden.

Where do you see wakeboarding/ BMX in 10 years time? And where do you see yourself?
Fooshee: Hopefully not too old and still in the game. Wakeboarding in 10 years will be unreal! I cannot imagine what it will be like due to the progression that is happening right now. Winching will be on a whole other level in 10 years though.
Geier: Wahrscheinlich werde ich mich irgendwann als Rider aus dem Contest-Geschehen verabschieden. Wenn es irgendwie möglich ist, möchte ich aber mein Leben lang mit dem Sport zu tun haben, vielleicht selbst Contests organisieren oder so.

Do you enjoy riding at the Wasserski-Arena Pinneberg? What makes it special?
Fooshee: I love the cable park in Pinneberg! The obstacles in the park are top notch and a ton of fun to ride. Having trees surround the whole lake is incredible! It blocks the wind so well and it also makes a great arena for people to come check out wakeboarding.

Ist es etwas Besonderes, für so einen Wettbewerb nach Hamburg zu kommen?
Geier: Es ist eigentlich immer etwas Besonderes, wegen diesem kleinen Rad irgendwo hin zu fahren!

What do you think about the concept of the T-Mobile Extreme Playgrounds combining action sports and music?
Fooshee: They definitely got the right idea, music and sports go together very well! T-Mobile combines the best sports with the best music so people are getting world class entertainment right to their own personal viewing when they attend the T-Mobile Playgrounds.
Geier: Die Idee finde ich wirklich super!

Is there any rivalry between the riders during the competition? How do you get on outside the contest?
Fooshee: I enjoy all the riders on the tour. I do not personally have a rivalry with any of them because competition is not everything I am in it for. I like to make dope photos that apply different grabs and aspects compared to most wakeboarders that ride cable. Trying different things separates me from the others, and that creates a great relationship between the other riders and myself.
Geier: Außerhalb des Contests sind alle Rider gute Freunde. Wenn wir dann auf die Räder steigen ändert sich zum Glück nichts daran!

What kind of music do you listen to? Are you looking forward to seeing Rise Against rock the crowd?
Fooshee: You know it!!!! I love all kinds of music. I really like to listen to some gangster hip hop when I am rolling with my homies but when I am wakeboarding I love to listen to punk style music. Rise Against will be a great addition to the T-Mobile Playgrounds.
Geier: Je nach Laune höre ich ganz viel verschiedene Musik, aber auf Rise Against freue ich mich natürlich total!
